Oakville Is Westward Ho!
From Bronte to Kerr Village, Oakville is one suburb that is full of character. This Weekly Yelp is on the hunt for killer eats and sweets in this city. You’ve tried the rest, now try the west. O-town, here we come.
Dinner is no trouble in the Oakville bubble. Natalie T even braves the QEW. “Corks is all about tapas and sharing. So that’s what we did!” She noshes on their chorizo plate and beet salad with olive oil and fior di latte. Joe C conquers his Zeus-sized appetite with Colossus Greek Taverna’s “always amazing” Lavraki: European sea bass grilled with fresh oregano, lemon, sea salt, parsley and imported Greek virgin olive oil. Opa! On Friday nights at The Firehall, you can Flip For Your Fish: “Get your fish and chips dinner for free if you win a coin toss.” Timea L adds: “the wings are also phenomenal… the best I’ve had in Oakville by far.”
For eats off the beaten path, you don’t need to bring Bear Grylls; let Yelp be your guide. Dana D boasts about the “massive wrap of chewy, flaky roti” from Kori’s Roti Stop. “Stuffed until it’s massive with flavourful curry. It’s better than any roti I’ve had in the financial district.” Feeling adventurous, Melanie C explores a new section on Pho Mi 89′s menu: eel and frog. “When it comes to amphibians I don’t joke around.” And though Adonis is tucked into a “Weird location in a residential neighborhood strip plaza,” Chris G swears by it. His chicken shwarma was a winner. “I will definitely be back.”
Satisfy your sweet tooth with sugar-slinging bake shops like Elm Hill Cookies. Self-proclaimed cookie monster Jonathan C’s favourites include: “the cinnamon bun cookie (yes, you read that right), the double ginger cookie and their own take on an Oreo.” Magdelena R gripes that “the flavour selection is overwhelming” at Chocolate Alphabet & Casa del Gelato. “I feel a little stressed when it is my turn to get served because my heart always pushes me to say ‘one of each please.’” Richie S recommends you mind the macaroons at Black Forest Pastry Shop and nab one of their Polish donuts too. “A thick glazed donut with raspberry filling.” Sounds sinfully sweet!
