OTMH Classic set to run on Father’s Day
For the third year, Alun Evans will be lacing up his shoes on Father’s Day in support of the OTMH Classic.
More than 1,000 people are expected to participate in the annual run/walk event benefitting Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH).
This is the 15th year for the popular event that raises much needed funds for the hospital’s equipment fund.
This year’s goal is to raise $150,000 to purchase essential new equipment for OTMH and the new Oakville hospital.
“I am so excited again for another great day and the chance to raise money for a cause close to our hearts,” said Evans, who like many people running, has a personal connection to the hospital.
“Our journey with OTMH started in March 2009 with the birth of our daughter, Lexie. At an early age of three weeks she was hospitalized at OTMH for a week with a respiratory virus which gave us the scare of our lives. This kickstarted our desire to support the hospital, which was so good to us and helped our little princess.”
Some 22 months later, baby Liam was welcomed into the Evans family.
“He came into the world a bit sooner than expected, but into open arms and a loving big sister,” said Evans.
“He, too, had his challenges early in life with a bacterial infection and respiratory issues, which kept him away from home for a week. Again the care at OTMH was phenomenal and we are proud to be big supporters of the hospital and its staff.”
Co-presented by Oak-Land Ford Lincoln and Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd., the June 19 event has something for everyone, including a 5km run, 5km power walk, 3km power walk, and a 1km children’s fun run.
The excitement begins at 8:15 a.m. with a warm-up for all participants and ends with a complimentary Father’s Day breakfast at 9:30 a.m.
Medals and prizes will also be awarded in a range of categories for all events.
“We ask again that you help us in supporting the Oakville Hospital Foundation with your participation, cheering and, of course, your generous and charitable donations,” said Evans.
